Position Summary The Senior Virtualization Engineer leads and works alongside Virtualization Engineers and Network Engineers. They research, explore and test new virtualization features and functionality offered by VMware. Collaborate with team members to develop and test implementations of these features and functions. Assist escalating critical issues as needed. Develop scripts & queries to validate functionality and security of all systems and performance metrics. Develop automated procedures to deploy virtualization infrastructure with minimal intervention and time to deploy. Provide performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and the resolution of system issues. Produce and present documentation of standard operating procedures for employees related to virtualization products, and solutions to new or unknown issues.

Provide Tier III support. Responsible for handling the most difficult or advanced problems using expert level troubleshooting and analysis methods. Responsible for assisting both Tier I and Tier II personnel and the research & development.

Key Responsibilities

Research, explore and test new virtualization features and functionality offered by VMware.

Collaborate with team members to develop and test implementations of these features and functions.

Assist escalating critical issues as needed.

Develop scripts & queries to validate functionality and security of all systems and performance metrics.

Develop automated procedures to deploy virtualization infrastructure with minimal intervention and time to deploy.

Provide performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and resolution of system issues.

Produce and present documentation of standard operating procedures for employees related to virtualization products.

Deliver solutions to new or unknown issues.

Provide Tier III support and assist Tier I and Tier II personnel.

Qualifications

Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Technology and Systems Management preferred; Bachelor degree in a technical discipline or qualifying experience preferred.

6+ years of experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware.

Experience in PowerShell scripting.

Excellent knowledge of VMware management tools (vCenter, vRealize Operations, VMware Configuration Manager).

Knowledge in conducting performance analysis for both the ESX host and its guests (CPU, Memory, I/O).

Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administration role (Microsoft, Linux or VMware).

Strong understanding of Internet/IP related technologies (routing, switching, sub‑netting).

Understanding of core ISP technologies (DNS, SMTP, HTTP/S).

Preferred experience with Linux system management.

Experience with backup technologies (EMC Networker or CommVault).

Experience with Windows 2008/2012 Active Directory environments.

Experience with SharePoint 2007 or higher and Exchange 2010 or higher.

Experience with SAN technologies (iSCSI, Fiber Channel, FCoIP).

Experience with load balancing technologies such as KEMP.

Experience with database technologies (MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills – able to explain complex concepts to a wide variety of individuals with varying technical skills.

Required certifications: CompTIA Storage+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Security+, Valid VCP‑DCV, Valid VCP‑DTM.

Preferred certifications: MCP (MCSA or higher), Cisco CCENT or above, Linux certification, other virtualization technologies (Citrix, Hyper‑V), cloud-based technologies.

Minimal supervisory duties over Virtualization Engineer and Associate.
