Job Title
Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer
Location Washington, DC 20068
Assignment Length 1–2 year plus assignment
Responsibilities
Perform Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering design reviews for Substation sites.
Act as Project Engineer responsible for projects related to Substation Sites and Equipment.
Conduct civil site work, storm‑water, steel, concrete, foundations, transformers, reactors, breakers, and other electric device design/analysis/revision, coordinating with outsourcing engineering firms inside substations.
Coordinate Transmission Tower projects in design and/or analysis.
Work on Battery BESS replacement projects, including floor analysis to withstand new battery systems and other equipment.
Coordinate and revise projects such as substation roadways, storm‑water management—including channels and culverts—to remediate failure due to climate conditions or age of elements inside/outside the substation property.
Support revisions and coordination with outsourcing engineering firms regarding design and analysis of new or existing substation building projects.
Office work with local travel to visit work sites within the DC, MD, VA area when needed.
Work with internal teams and outside EOCs on Substation site upgrades: breaker replacement, transformer replacement, storm‑water, and oil containment projects.
Review work performed by third parties, act as liaison between outside engineering companies, and provide detailed design directions to A.E. companies.
Review and approve permits, drawings and construction drawings, ensuring all engineering standards, construction standards and safety codes are met.
Provide support to construction groups during the construction phase to assure timely completion within scope.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Preferred: 10–15 years of experience in engineering and electrical utility projects, with fluency in STAAD.
Experience with STAAD; additional tools such as MathCad, LPile are nice to have.
Electric utility experience preferred.
Five or more years of experience in civil site work, storm‑water, site design and development.
PE certification is a plus, but not required.
Experience reviewing work performed by third parties.
