Position Summary This job description applies to two (2) identical full‑time openings. The Stationary Engineers responsible for the maintenance and operation of all HVAC and mechanical systems, along with the monitoring tools that support them. The ideal candidate brings solid working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, and experience with key building operations such as air handling units, plumbing and steam fitting, fire protection systems, and elevators. This role contributes directly to the university’s mission by supporting reliable facilities that enable students, faculty, and staff to work, learn, and thrive.
Duties/Responsibilities
Boiler operation and maintenance
Chemical water treatment of both hot and cold loops
Running chillers and house pumps
Familiar with basic electricity and electrical troubleshooting
Respond to radio/house calls and monitor work order system throughout shift
Work together with other in‑house technicians and departments
Work with outside vendors and contractors
Provide a safe and comfortable learning, work and living environment for students and employees
Perform other duties as requested, delegated or assigned by supervisor
Engineers must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed
Required Qualifications
Minimum of three years of hands‑on experience in building operations, HVAC, or related mechanical systems, ideally supported by a stationary engineer’s license
Basic computer skills for entering, tracking, and retrieving work order and equipment data
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational credential
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in stationary engineering, mechanical systems, or a closely related field
Advanced skills in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex mechanical systems
Physical Demands
Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Salary and FLSA Status
Salary: $ 46.42 hour /$96,553.60 annually
FLSA Status: Hourly Non‑Exempt, Full‑time, 40 hrs wk
