Title: Assistant Athletic Director
Assignment: School year plus ten (10) summer days
Location: Winnetka Campus
Reports to: Athletic Director
Start Date: August 10, 2026
Salary Range: $102,883 – $166,187
Position Overview The Assistant Athletic Director supports the Athletic Director in overseeing the District’s athletic program. This person is responsible for managing practice and competition schedules, facilities, event staffing, officiating assignments, and transportation for all athletic events and special programs (tournaments, invites, etc.). Also, this person serves as the coordinator for the Student Athlete Leadership Training (SALT) program. Leaders at New Trier possess the skills and dispositions described in the New Trier Candidate Profile.
Qualifications
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a high school-level endorsement required. An Administrative Endorsement or Principal Endorsement or ability to obtain within two years preferred.
Minimum five years experience as a teacher at the secondary level preferred
Experience as a head coach preferred and/or an assistant coach
Knowledge of best practices in coaching practices, and holistic development of student-athletes
Experience in staff supervision and/or leadership development
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as speaking and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships with both internal and external constituents
Demonstrated ability to work independently while also collaborating with faculty and administrative colleagues
Able to make independent decisions aligned with district policies, handle difficult situations tactfully, and perform all duties and responsibilities of the position
Responsibilities Program Administration and Advancement
Supports the athletic director in managing the district athletic program
Assists the athletic director with recruiting liaison with post-high school counselors
Coordinates and serves as a lead teacher for the SALT program
Participates in professional athletic programs and organizations
Assists with the hiring of event staff
Scheduling and Logistics
Creates and manages schedules for all assigned athletic teams
Seeks and schedules all facility needs for athletic department activities, including rental requests
Oversees transportation arrangements
Assists with IHSA post-season tournament travel arrangements
Staff and Event Coordination
Confirms the assignment of officials and corresponds with all official assignment chairs
Assists with all sports tournaments and invites
Assists Athletic Director with PPS facility setup requests
Collaborates with IT to coordinate athletic eligibility, rosters, and athletic registration
Coordinates and serves as a lead teacher for the SALT program
Attends evening and weekend events at both home and away games and meets
Other Responsibilities of the Assistant Athletic Director
Assumes responsibility for their own professional growth and development
Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor
