Component Design & Structural Analysis Engineer

This is a full‑time on‑site role for a Component Design & Structural Analysis Engineer , based in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, or remote. This position is ideal for candidates with strong mechanical design, structural modeling, and analysis experience who are passionate about developing advanced, safety‑critical components for next‑generation nuclear systems.

Base pay range

$100,000.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design, modeling, and drafting of reactor components, assemblies, and supporting structures
  • Perform structural, thermal‑mechanical, and vibration analyses using finite element analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, or equivalent)
  • Evaluate component performance under normal operation, transient conditions, accident scenarios, seismic events, and extreme loading conditions
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings, design specifications, and technical documentation in accordance with ASME Section III and related codes
  • Collaborate with thermal‑hydraulics, materials, and safety engineers to incorporate multi‑disciplinary requirements into component design
  • Support component verification and validation testing , including prototyping, mechanical tests, and qualification activities
  • Conduct design optimization studies focused on manufacturability, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to ensure components meet fabrication, inspection, and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare technical reports, analysis summaries, and documentation for internal design reviews and NRC licensing submittals
  • Participate in hazard analyses, design reviews, and risk mitigation activities
  • Stay current on best practices in structural analysis, advanced materials, and nuclear system design

Qualifications & Skillsets

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Nuclear Engineering , or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and structural analysis , preferably in nuclear, aerospace, defense, or high‑reliability industries
  • Proficiency with FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of ASME Section III , pressure boundary design, materials behavior, and structural mechanics
  • Experience evaluating components under thermal, seismic, and dynamic loads
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, or similar) and PDM/PLM systems
  • Knowledge of materials, welding, fabrication processes , and component qualification practices
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • High attention to detail, rigorous documentation practices, and commitment to engineering excellence
  • Passion for clean energy, advanced technology, and designing components that enable safe, scalable nuclear power
