Job Summary
The Division Controller will manage the Accounting Department staff across the Union City and Covina campuses of Masonic Homes of California and Acacia Creek. The role is essential for accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, overseeing cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger functions. The controller will assess internal processes, recommend controls to the CFO, support year‑end audit preparation, and partner with the CEO on financial matters.
Essential Functions
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting teams at Union City and Covina, setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and ensuring cross‑training for continuity.
Collaborate with executive directors and operational staff to manage budgets, analyze financial performance, and provide actionable guidance.
Maintain close working relationships with the Grand Lodge Controller, Director of Financial Planning, and CFO to resolve issues promptly.
Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring all transactions comply with GAAP and are recorded within 15 business days.
Prepare and review key account reconciliations, including balance sheet accounts, intercompany transactions, accruals, and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely approvals.
Ensure accurate resident billing, monitor collections and payments, and optimize working capital.
Manage resident asset accounting, including database maintenance, qualification processes, asset disposition, and banking activities.
Assist with audit documentation, Medicare/Medicaid compliance, and annual cost‑report filings.
Drive process improvements, recommend technology upgrades (Concur, POS, MatrixCare, Sage Intacct), and streamline accounting functions.
Serve as system administrator for MatrixCare and Sage Intacct, leading related software implementations.
Perform all duties assigned in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
Requirements
BA/BS in Accounting or Business; CPA or MBA preferred.
Minimum 10 years of accounting experience covering A/R, A/P, G/L, and financial statement analysis.
3–5 years of management experience, preferably supervising five or more staff.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word) and accounting software (MatrixCare, Intacct).
Strong analytical, mathematical, and detail‑oriented skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
