Summary of the Role The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees all financial operations of the organization and serves as a key strategic partner to the CEO and Executive Management Team. The CFO leads accounting, budgeting, reporting, compliance, billing, financial planning, and risk management while ensuring the organization operates from a strong financial foundation. This role combines hands-on operational oversight with high-level strategic leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Organizational Impact

Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board as the organization evolves and scales.

Drive long-term financial planning, sustainability strategies, and forward-looking analysis that help shape organizational growth.

Provide clear financial insights that inform decision-making, innovation, and resource allocation.

Financial Management

Manage day-to-day accounting and financial operations.

Lead development of budgets for the organization and individual program areas.

Prepare, analyze, and present monthly financial reports and dashboards.

Report financial results, forecasts, and performance metrics to leadership and the Board.

Grants, Contracts & Revenue

Oversee all financial reporting required by funding sources.

Manage Billing, A/R, and A/P functions, ensuring accuracy and integration across systems.

Support the financial planning of new programs, expansions, and strategic initiatives.

Compliance, Audit & Risk Management

Maintain and evolve internal controls, policies, and financial procedures.

Lead annual audit activity and ensure timely, accurate completion.

Monitor regulatory changes and implement needed adjustments to maintain compliance.

Oversee organizational insurance coverage and risk mitigation strategies.

Cash Flow & Financial Operations

Oversee banking activities and ensure adequate liquidity at all times.

Support contract negotiations and financial aspects of vendor and partner agreements.

Strengthen financial systems, workflows, and technology to support efficiency and accuracy.

Team Leadership

Supervise finance and billing leadership, providing coaching, direction, and professional development.

Promote a culture of accountability, service, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge Of

GAAP, nonprofit accounting principles, and federal regulatory guidelines

Grant and contract budgeting/reporting

Payroll and employee benefits administration

Financial systems, reporting tools, and advanced Excel

Healthcare, human-services, or multi-program environments (preferred but not required)

Ability To

Lead all aspects of the financial management function

Build, analyze, and present financial statements, budgets, and forecasts

Supervise staff, manage performance, and strengthen departmental operations

Communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders

Manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines

Solve complex problems and adapt to changing needs

Build organizational partnerships and foster cross-departmental collaboration

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's preferred

5-7 years of senior financial leadership experience

Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or human-services organizations required

CPA credential is an advantage but not required
