Senior HR Director

Opportunity The University of Central Florida College of Medicine and Student Health Services is currently accepting applications for the Senior Human Resources Director. This leadership role functions as a strategic executive partner, providing operational oversight for all HR functions within the College of Medicine, Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, Student Health Services, and indirectly supporting UCF Health. The position reports simultaneously to the Associate Vice President and Chief HR Officer and the Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean, College of Medicine. It requires specialized expertise in academic medicine HR and the management of complex employee populations, including Graduate Medical Education and Faculty Physicians, while ensuring regulatory compliance (LCME/ACGME) in a dynamic, matrixed environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute HR strategies and operational plans that support the college’s academic, research, and clinical missions.
Serve as a principal HR consultant and strategic partner to the College of Medicine and Health System leadership, advising on organizational design, talent management, workforce planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with university leadership and external health system partners to align HR initiatives with institutional goals, accreditation requirements (e.g., ACGME, LCME), and operational needs.
Provide senior advice on complex and high‑risk employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, policy interpretation, and progressive discipline.
Navigate sensitive employment relationships involving medical doctors with dual clinical and faculty appointments, delivering compliant and constructive outcomes.
Direct and manage all HR functions related to Graduate Medical Education (GME), maintaining expert knowledge of legal, contractual, and employee‑relation challenges specific to these programs.
Oversee classification and compensation strategy, collaborating with the University Compensation team to ensure competitive salaries and fair pay practices, approving personnel transactions in Workday.
Develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all university, state, and federal labor laws, and serve as liaison with University HR Centers of Expertise.
Lead organizational planning for staffing forecasts, talent acquisition and retention strategies based on workforce trends.
Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and development to the HR staff within the college/division.
Collaborate with University HR Centers of Expertise to align data, business processes, and operational strategies with institutional priorities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience under Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 7 years in a HR leadership role within academic medicine or healthcare.
Expertise in managing legal, contractual, and employee‑relation challenges specific to Graduate Medical Education, Faculty, and Staff.
Proficiency in employment law, accreditation standards, and faculty practice pay and incentive plans; knowledge of ACGME and LCME standards is highly preferred.
Proven expertise in change management with the ability to guide teams through complex organizational transitions.
History of strategic team leadership focused on talent management, succession planning, and building a high‑performing, customer‑centric service delivery model.
Competence in Microsoft Office Suite, modern HRIS, and talent management systems; Workday experience desired.
Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and/or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM‑SCP).
Preferred Qualities
Exceptional executive‑level interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to influence and guide senior leadership.
Demonstrated ability to manage difficult, high‑stakes conversations with senior medical and academic leaders.
High integrity, logic, and sound business judgment in complex HR situations, with composure and appropriate escalation to the Dean or executive leadership.
HR certifications.
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $122,980 – $150,000 (based on qualifications, experience, & internal equity).
