Job Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer
responsible for overseeing and managing the electrical and controls design of expansion and maintenance capital projects. Projects are executed by third‑party engineering firms and must meet company standards, industry regulations, and project budgets and schedules.
Responsibilities
Ensure design compliance with company standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
Develop project scope, schedule, capital cost estimate, execution plan, risk management, and supporting information.
Manage third‑party engineering firm deliverables against budget and schedule.
Review and approve design deliverables such as drawings, technical reports, and material listing sheets.
Evaluate vendor material quotations, prepare technical assessments, and recommend selections based on technical merit, price, and delivery for items such as turbine/compressor packages, equipment vessels, buildings, pipe, valves, and fittings.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Incorporate lessons learned from past projects into future designs.
Guide junior engineers and collaborate with cross‑functional groups within Project Execution, Operations, and Shared Services.
Lead or support department initiatives as required.
Ensure project scope definitions comply with regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements.
Technical Expertise
Power :
120/208 V systems, lighting panels and outlets
480 V systems: motor controls, starters, motors, power panels, transformers, auto transfer switches, generators
4160 V systems: switchgear, motor starters, synchronous motors, circuit breakers, relaying, metering
Cable and conduit sizing, starter and overload sizing
Controls :
Allen‑Bradley or equivalent PLC systems, Wonderware operator interfaces, SCADA integration
Electric and pneumatic valve actuators
Instrumentation :
Smart and analog transmitters (Rosemount, Honeywell)
Pressure, differential pressure, temperature, level gauges, RTDs, thermocouples, thermowells, flame and gas detectors
Knowledge of NEC requirements for hazardous classified areas
Scope & Dimensions
Operational responsibility for assigned area with significant corporate financial impact.
Develop and/or implement technical solutions, ensuring efficient coordination of resources and stakeholders.
Informal leadership to peers.
Working Relationships
Project Manager – weekly status reports on progress, cost, schedule, and risk.
Supervisor/Manager, Facilities Project Engineering – daily to weekly status updates.
External Engineering Firm – daily oversight of design activities.
Operations – weekly status updates and guidance on design features.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
7+ years of progressively responsible engineering and project management experience
Preferred:
Innovation, change management, self‑direction, and multitasking skills
Deep technical and business knowledge to resolve complex issues
Awareness of stakeholder interrelationships
Clear communication of technical issues to technical and non‑technical staff
Working Conditions
High stress due to deadline‑oriented, high‑visibility projects with concurrent activities.
Overnight business trips to the field may be required; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be used.
