Job Summary The Senior Physical Therapist performs a variety of clinical and non‑clinical duties to facilitate appropriate physical therapy services for patients and the. The Senior Therapist works directly with staff clinicians, patients/families, physicians, and other internal and external customers while performing the listed functions. Will report to Director, Assistant Director, or Clinical Supervisor.
Essential Responsibilities
Evaluates patients and interprets examination findings to determine the nature and extent of dysfunction relative to persons limited by medical problems, birth defects, or health‑related conditions, and restores their abilities to move and perform functional activities.
Establishes plan of care to achieve established goals relative to age, medical history, and dysfunction.
Administers or prescribes modalities, exercise programs, and patient care programs.
Demonstrates professional competence and clinical reasoning throughout all phases of skilled physical therapy.
Regularly reassesses clinical signs and symptoms to determine effectiveness of treatment, progression toward goals, and the need for modification.
Implements the treatment program through direct treatment of the patient.
Coordinates the treatment plan, participates in discharge planning, and engages in relevant patient care rounds and case management conferences.
Provides advice and education to patient and family.
Discharges patients when therapy is no longer medically necessary and when clinically appropriate.
Upholds Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, principles of responsibility, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
Maintains cleanliness of assigned areas and reports non‑functioning equipment.
Provides accurate and timely documentation of physical therapy services per state and federal requirements.
Works in partnership with management to complete mandatory compliance requirements.
May be required to cover diverse populations of patients depending on local medical center need.
May be involved in the clinical competency of PT Assistants and PT Aides.
Demonstrates internal and external customer service.
Acts as a resource for department issues in day‑to‑day operations, assisting with orientation, training, and staffing.
Provides input to clinical performance of staff and to management regarding performance evaluation.
Actively participates in staffing models and smooth staffing across areas.
Basic Qualifications
Four (4) years minimum Physical Therapist experience.
Completion of an accredited PT training program with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.
Physical Therapist License (California) required at hire or license applicant (California) required at hire; must maintain within 4 months of hire.
Basic Life Support required at hire.
National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Additional Requirements
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
One (1) year recent experience in a clinical setting for which position is posted.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Notes
8‑hour shifts, 2 hospital weekend shifts per month.
Schedule may change based on operational need. Minor and Major Holiday commitment.
Locations may include all Hospitals in the SD Service Area.
