Fidelity Investments Workplace Investing (WI) organization is seeking an experienced mainframe

Software Engineer to join our Custom Client Solutions team within the Stock Plan Services (SPS) Technology organization. The person will play a key role in developing and delivering client specific enhancements on our Legacy Application to support our Plan Administration System. This role demands significant collaboration with members of various business and IT groups throughout the lifecycle of a typical project.

Purpose of Your Role Use business and technical knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex stock plan services software applications on a mainframe platform running under a Z/OS environment.

Skills You Bring

Demonstrated expertise (“DE”) in defining, developing, and leading an interactive team to implement scalable application solutions

DE in mainframe application development, automation, and support, utilizing COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM, MQ-Series, and SQL

DE in mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning, including ways to reduce I/Os, CPU Time, MSUs, and MIPs, using Strobe, iStrobe, and Platinum Detector

DE in mainframe application development including file format and comparison using File-AID; version management using Endeavor; debugging and unit testing using Intertest and Abend-AID; and job scheduling using Control-M

Value You Deliver

Perform as a full stack engineer within an Agile team, including requirements gathering, development, and end‑to‑end testing

Define, develop, and lead an interactive team to implement application‑level architecture, giving due consideration to application scalability and extensibility, and conformance to established standards

Provide on‑site and on‑call support as needed and act as a subject matter expert as part of a cross‑functional crisis management team

Develop applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division

Recommend development testing tools and methodologies and review and validate test plans

Resolve technical roadblocks involving multiple technologies and make recommendations and improvements to avoid them in the future

Collaborate with multiple layers of management to share approaches, develop solutions, and improve capabilities throughout the organization

Lead collaborative sessions and ceremonies with stakeholders and provide guidance and feedback to team members

Be responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables

Plan and conduct system testing

Develop comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems

Establish full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms

Be responsible for meeting project goals on‑time and on‑budget

Advise on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects

Plan and coordinate project schedules and assignments for multiple projects

Act as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues

Provide technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives

Perform independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several initiatives

Develop original and creative technical solutions to on‑going development efforts

Impact on the Organization Develop applications and provide support on a mainframe environment, using COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, MQ‑Series, SQL, and VSAM files. Analyze and recommend changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management.

Eligibility and Work Location Most roles at Fidelity are Hybrid, requiring associates to work onsite every other week (all business days, M‑F) in a Fidelity office. This does not apply to Remote or fully Onsite roles.
