The salary range for this position is $92.11 - $138.17 per hour. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For union‑represented positions, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

Description The Senior Associate General Counsel reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM). This role adheres to NM’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Provide legal advice and counsel on health care and general corporate matters affecting all areas of the NMHC system, including academic affiliations, antitrust, community affairs, construction contracts, not‑for‑profit corporate governance, disability laws, employment laws/benefits, gift agreements, IT, intellectual property, internal investigations, litigation, medical staff credentialing, patient care, medico‑legal issues, managed care, real estate, regulatory compliance, reimbursement, tax exemption, and other regulatory matters.

Assist with corporate transactions, including strategy development, negotiation, and drafting of necessary documents.

Review, analyze, and counsel on federal and state legislation relevant to NM operations, including Medicare/Medicaid, Stark, Anti‑Kickback, antitrust, IRC, ERISA, Insurance, and Licensure.

Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts and other documents related to NMHC operations, actively participating in negotiations as needed.

Assist in the review and negotiation of managed care contracts and provide ongoing counsel on such contracts and strategies.

Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on a broad range of issues.

Review and comment on hospital administrative policies.

Participate in committees and task forces on topics such as bylaws, patient care, medical records, medical staff, and regulatory matters, providing legal advice.

Qualifications

Illinois license to practice law.

J.D. degree.

Minimum 10 years of health law or related experience.

Preferred

Experience in general health care regulatory matters, managed care, corporate finance, not‑for‑profit corporate transactions, and complex contracts.

Prior law firm and/or in‑house experience.
