Senior Mechanical Engineer - Life Sciences

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Lead and oversee a mechanical design team consisting of Project Engineers and Designers to ensure high‑quality project delivery.
Drive the development and review of complex engineering calculations, including HVAC load calculations, fan static pressure analysis, hydraulic calculations/modeling, and isometric analyses by Project Mechanical Engineers.
Coordinate scheduling of field surveys and support the development of HVAC and Central Utility system layout and design, in collaboration with the Project Mechanical Engineer and Mechanical Designers.
Coordinate closely with multi‑disciplinary teams – including architects, other engineering disciplines, client representatives, facility operations, and contractors – to ensure cohesive project integration.
Conduct facility infrastructure assessments, infrastructure/utility master planning, and perform code and energy evaluations.
Lead the development of airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, zoning plans, and classification plans for Pharmaceutical and Life Science applications.
Lead the development of equipment specifications, based on company standards, and in coordination with specific client and equipment vendor requirements.
Manage the review of equipment submittals and shop drawings, prepare timely responses to RFIs, and create punch list development and resolution.
Assist the Chief Automation Engineer in the development of Instrumentation and Control Design for Mechanical systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
10+ years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities
Deep familiarity with Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Science, and Laboratory industries, with insight into client priorities, compliance standards, and market dynamics
Proficiency in computerized HVAC load calculation and energy software
Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives, including identifying project opportunities and supporting proposal efforts.
Expertise in Mechanical systems design and engineering, including chilled water plants, steam and hot water boiler plants, custom and semi‑custom air handling units, direct expansion (DX) system design, pumps, duct and air distribution systems, piping systems, and DDC control systems.
Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Professional software
Strong leadership and collaboration skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with client‑facing roles and proposal development
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff in client relationship development and support their involvement in business development activities
PE License
