Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) – Center for Rehabilitation, Lynchburg, VA (Opening: Summer 2026).

Centra Rehabilitation Hospital, operated jointly with Lifepoint Health and Centra Health, will be a brand‑new, 65,000‑square‑foot, acute inpatient rehabilitation facility with a 50‑bed center dedicated to intensive nursing, physical, occupational therapy, and speech pathology services for patients suffering from neurological injuries and illnesses. The hospital will be constructed next to the new Centra Behavioral Health Hospital on Simons Run.

Responsibilities

Provide professional working conditions for employees.

Ensure the nursing department staff performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Assist with development of the nursing department budget in collaboration with the CEO and Controller, managing costs associated with personnel, equipment and supplies.

Responsible for staffing plans, management of nursing hours per patient day, and quality of work of nursing staff.

Assure compliance with nursing scope of practice and HIPAA.

Enforce compliance of the nursing department with education/in‑service requirements, orientation, and competencies.

Lead monthly staff meetings and communicate information to/from management and leadership.

Promote rehabilitation nursing philosophy and practice; encourage staff development, including acquisition of CRRN for qualified registered nurses.

Assist to review and evaluate risk and quality indicators, patient satisfaction results, and outcomes in order to continually improve performance and outcomes; communicate this information to the nursing department.

Perform management activities including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, and performance evaluations of staff in the nursing department.

Assure proper documentation of medical necessity by staff in medical records; monitor completion and revisions to the Interdisciplinary Care Plan.

Ensure nursing staff receives education and training on Quality Indicators (QI); assure timely and accurate QI assessments and scoring.

Ensure nursing attendance and participation in team conferences.

Ensure that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Masters degree preferred and/or BSN with plan to complete a master’s degree program in healthcare administration, business administration or clinical specialty.

Current unrestricted Registered Nurse licensure.

Current CRRN or obtained within 2 years preferred.

Minimum of five years’ experience in healthcare administration/management with a minimum of two years’ experience at a senior nursing management level preferred.

Minimum of five years’ experience in hospital management in an inpatient, acute care environment.

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Active CPR certification.
