Senior Polyurethane Foam Engineer Hyundai Transys is seeking a Senior Polyurethane Foam Engineer to support polyurethane foam processing including research and development, process specifications, process optimization, quality assurance, and physical property testing.

Summary of Position The Senior Polyurethane Foam Engineer will perform all duties in support of polyurethane foam processing, including research and development, process specifications, process optimization, quality assurance, and physical property testing. The position will provide technical support including setup, maintenance, and installation. Additionally, the engineer will act as a point of contact between business managers, employees, and customers to secure effective operation and customer satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the management and foam team in organizing, planning, and implementing strategy.

Coordinate technical projects and improvements.

Investigate technical issues related to foam.

Create reports, analyze, and interpret foam data.

Drive continuous improvement processes with material and machines, utilizing improved processes and technology.

Program robots to optimize pour patterns.

Validate and identify continuous improvement opportunities with lab results related to static load, hardness, density, and dimension.

Maintain knowledge on current topics and trends in the polyurethane foam, automotive, and seating industry.

Attend all required training as assigned.

Be flexible in work to support continuous improvement activities that ensure personal and company growth.

Reports to Assistant Manager Engineering.

Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical tasks include standing/walking, forceful grip, sit, fine manipulation, computer work, bend/stoop/squat, lift, forward reach, carry, overhead reach, push/pull. The employee generally works in indoor office and warehouse environments. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in chemical, polymer science, or mechanical engineering with preferred process experience, or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 5 years’ experience with polyurethane foam systems and processing, including high pressure mix heads required.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Automotive foam pad seating experience preferred, but not required.

Knowledge of oval track foam machines (Complete calibration of metering units/Mix head components – Hennecke preferred).

Knowledge of chemical blending & validation methods (PU foam).

Knowledge of PU lab testing equipment & processes (Cup Shot/Titration/Force to crush/ILD).

Ability to coordinate/perform capacity & correlation studies to validate equipment.

Excellent planning, negotiating, and organizing skills.

Analytical mind with solid math skills.

Must have effective oral and written communication skills with all level’s employees, customers, and vendors.

Robotic programming, Fanuc preferred.

Able to read and interpret blueprints.

Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic troubleshooting skills.

Technical/ Computer Skills

Must be proficient using MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email.
