Protective Force Second Lieutenant

Overview Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Protective Force Second Lieutenant (2nd LT) and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
Work under the Protective Force Shift Supervisor (Lieutenant) providing leadership and support to assigned crew; fulfill all shift supervisor responsibilities when Lieutenant is absent.
Provide security and law enforcement services at the WIPP, a Category 2 nuclear facility, during assigned shift.
Lead a team of Security Police Officers assigned to shift; ensure each member is capable to support security operations.
Integrate into a team of Security Police Officers, ensuring each member maintains the capability to support security operations.
Complete or delegate tasks to ensure completion of routine patrols and activities as required by shift assignment.
Confirm daily administrative documentation is completed.
Provide tactically and technically sound leadership during emergent situations with a security nexus.
Interface and support other first responder organizations during emergencies involving site resources.
Communicate information of interest to Protective Force and Safeguards and Security Management as necessary.
Conduct/supervise vehicle and foot patrols; stand fixed posts to observe and analyze site-wide activities.
Staff or oversee entry control facility operations to control ingress by vehicle and pedestrian traffic, ensuring only authorized persons enter.
Operate government vehicles, communications equipment, camera systems, and other special purpose security equipment and systems.
Enforce adherence to laws, orders, regulations, which may require Use of Force up to Deadly Force.
Investigate post‑incident/unemergent security‑related incidents, including interviewing witnesses, reporting persons, and victims, and writing detailed Security Incident Reports.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Understand and embrace nuclear safety culture principles.
Be on call to support emergencies and routine security operations.
Pass Basic Readiness Standards (BRS) and maintain medical/physical fitness standards and other job‑specific qualification programs.
Pass Federal background investigation and obtain a DOE "Q" Security Clearance within two years from start date and maintain clearance thereafter.
Minimum Requirements
Associate’s degree with two (2) years of related professional experience, OR
High School Diploma or Equivalency with four (4) years of related professional experience.
Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
At least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship required except in limited circumstances.
Preferred Requirements
WIPP Security Police Officer experience.
Two (2) years of experience in physical security, law enforcement, or military service.
Two (2) years of experience managing/supervising.
Active "Q" Security Clearance.
