MK2 Core Avionics Senior Flight Software Manager - Lunar Permanence Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Flight Software Manager for our Lunar Permanence business unit, responsible for leading the software team for the MK2 Lander and contributing to NASA’s HLS SLD program. This role is part of the mission to build sustainable lunar infrastructure and support crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical team to develop and deliver core flight software, middleware, protocols, and operating system products that meet mission objectives and requirements while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.

Define the product portfolio, specify requirements, and plan the work involved in crafting plans and tracking outcomes to meet scope.

Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a team of software engineers.

Coordinate professional development of employees through performance evaluations, compensation management, and routine development conversations.

Develop robust plans to successfully implement the work, managing key operating metrics such as technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk. Report regularly on progress to management and the team.

Provide technical leadership and perform high-quality technical work.

Monitor technical progress, requirements, budget, schedule, work, and risks, providing recommendations for changes to program management.

Coordinate with the Verification manager to ensure verification plans meet system safety requirements and prioritize resources to the verification team following development.

Apply sound engineering & business judgment to ensure the efficient & effective development, testing, and delivery of products.

Develop product roadmaps, collaborating with internal & external customers to ensure integration meets current & future mission needs.

Work independently towards long‑range objectives, determining technical objectives of assignments & developing innovative solutions.

Embody, promote, & mentor Blue Origin leadership principles.

Minimum Qualifications

5+ years of experience managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading & mentoring employees.

Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, & cost.

Ability to earn trust, maintain positive & professional relationships, & contribute to a passionate culture committed to safety.

Excellent written & oral communication skills.

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with human‑rated space vehicle flight software development & verification.

Familiarity with DO‑178C & safety‑critical applications.

Proficiency in C++, Rust, and QNX or equivalent experience.

Experience with agile project management.

Knowledge of critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management, & Cost Account Management such as EVM.

Experience in managing subcontracts.

Experience with verification, integration, & testing of orbital launch vehicles or human‑rated spacecraft.

Compensation WA applicants: $191,265.00–$267,771.00.

Other site ranges may differ.
