Role Location: Cambridge, MA (Onsite)
Schedule: Standard business hours (with occasional off-hours support for incidents or trainings)
Compensation: $65–$85 per hour (based on experience)
Overview
Join a large biotech pharmaceutical leader as the on-site EHS Manager for Cambridge laboratories and facilities. You’ll lead contractor safety programs, serve as the EHS point of contact for process development labs, and drive a culture of safety through compliant procedures, training, incident response, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Own contractor safety programs across labs, facilities, and construction projects.
- Review permits to work and contractor Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for OSHA compliance.
- Establish safe work procedures for high-hazard tasks (LOTO, confined space, hot work, machine guarding).
- Serve as EHS contact for process development labs; conduct assessments and walkthroughs.
- Lead incident investigations; implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Deliver in-person contractor safety training; support emergency response.
- Analyze safety data to identify and control hazards, emphasizing SIF prevention.
- Develop EHS SOPs and guidance; participate in safety meetings, audits, and metrics reviews.
- Partner with service providers to elevate contractor safety culture and performance.
Qualifications

- Expert in developing/reviewing OSHA-compliant JHAs for high-hazard activities.
- Strong interpersonal coaching skills during job walks and on-the-spot guidance.
- Effective public speaker and safety trainer.
Required Experience & Skills
- Direct experience leading contractor and construction safety programs.
- Incident investigation with root-cause/CAPA methodology.
- Influential communicator across diverse internal teams and contractors; strong documentation.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and common EHS systems/tools.
Preferred
- 5+ years pharma/biotech industrial safety experience; CSP credential.
- Demonstrated risk evaluation/assessment; strong technical writing.
- Familiarity with Operational Excellence/continuous improvement approaches.
Education (Basic Qualifications)
- Doctorate, or Master’s + 3 years Ops/Manufacturing, or Bachelor’s + 5 years, or Associate’s + 10 years, or HS/GED + 12 years.
