LPN - Emergency Department Full-time Evening Shift
Position Summary:
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the Emergency Department provide supportive, restorative, and skills-based care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Physician, or other authorized provider. Duties include monitoring patients, administering medications, assisting with specimen collection, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
Observe patients during their stay, identify symptomatic changes, and report to supervising staff.
Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, BP, respiration) using standard equipment and record data.
Assist with specimen collection: urine, stool, and other samples.
Prepare and maintain patient charts and treatment records.
Administer medications—including IM, SC, oral, and topical routes—according to prescriptions.
Manipulate IV bottles and tubing for patients on IV therapy.
Change dressings and provide enemas or douches as directed.
Attend to patients’ daily living and personal hygiene needs.
Support ongoing environmental cleanliness, sanitation, and restocking of supplies.
Working Conditions Exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids; irregular and high-pressure hours due to emergency incidents; classified by OSHA as Category 1.
Qualifications
Required:
Valid license to practice as an LPN in New York State.
Preferred:
Acute care experience, phlebotomy, EKG, and/or IV proficiency; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Applicants with BLS that expires within 90 days of start date must attend a BLS training session during orientation.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Complete a pre-employment physical and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
Pass an electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
Pass a 4-panel drug screen.
Meet all regulatory pre-employment screening requirements.
Submit certified copies of required New York State licenses and certificates.
Anticipated Pay Range Salary: $45,081 per year. Salary range is a good-faith estimate; specific offer based on validated experience.
