My client is hiring a Senior / Lead Mechanical Engineer to own the design, development, and production readiness of complex, ruggedized sensor systems. This role sits at the intersection of product design, manufacturing, and cross‑functional leadership, with real ownership from concept through field deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Own mechanical system architecture and requirements for multi‑sensor hardware platforms
Lead the design of sheet metal, CNC plastics/metals, injection‑molded, and additively manufactured structural components
Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and cost optimization across the product lifecycle
Produce and review detailed GD&T drawings and technical documentation for manufacturing partners
Lead packaging of sensor sub‑assemblies, including cameras and other multi‑modal sensor systems
Own electronics and compute packaging, including thermal and structural analysis, simulation, and validation
Lead the design and integration of custom battery solutions
Define test strategies, acceptance criteria, and validation plans; oversee execution with internal teams and external partners
Act as the primary mechanical interface with contract manufacturers and vendors, supporting production ramp, assembly, and test
Provide technical leadership during field deployments and serve as a key escalation point for remote debugging and issue resolution
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices, design standards, and process improvements
Qualifications
7+ years of mechanical product design experience, including ownership of shipped hardware products
Strong experience leading complex mechanical systems from concept through production
Deep understanding of electronics and compute packaging requirements
Proven experience shipping high‑volume products and working closely with contract manufacturers
Hands‑on experience with injection molding, casting, opto‑mechanical design, and lithium battery systems
Comfortable making architectural decisions and trade‑offs across performance, cost, reliability, and schedule
Hands‑on experience building computers and servers (preferred)
Formula SAE / Baja SAE or other intensive project‑based engineering experience (preferred)
Seniority level Mid‑Senior level
