Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and strategic Director of Finance to oversee the financial health of Highway Safety. This role is responsible for both the retrospective functions of accounting and the forward-looking activities of financial planning, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and strategic alignment across the organization. The Director of Finance will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership and play a critical role in driving business performance and long-term financial success.
Duties and Responsibilities Financial Planning & Strategy
Drive the company’s financial planning processes, including long-term goal setting, forecasting, and scenario modeling.
Develop strategies to increase profitability, optimize cash flow, and support organizational growth.
Accounting Operations Oversight
Oversee all daily accounting functions (general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets) to ensure timely and accurate financial transaction processing.
Establish and maintain robust accounting policies and internal controls.
Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
Deliver meaningful financial analyses, KPI reporting, and insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.
Budgeting & Cost Management
Lead the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
Monitor expenditures, evaluate cost-saving opportunities, and champion efficiency improvements throughout the organization.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and accounting standards (GAAP; IFRS exposure is a plus).
Oversee internal audit processes, external audit coordination, and companywide financial risk mitigation activities.
Team Leadership
Hire, develop, train, and mentor finance and accounting team members.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Cash & Treasury Management
Manage organizational cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships.
Evaluate investment opportunities and short- and long-term financing strategies.
Systems & Process Improvement
Lead enhancements to accounting software, ERP systems, and reporting tools.
Implement process improvements that strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
Additional Responsibilities
Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, capital planning, pricing models, and business cases.
Support M&A evaluation, financial modeling, and integration efforts if applicable.
Represent Finance during key leadership meetings and cross-functional projects.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
MBA or professional certification (CPA, CMA, or CFA) strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
Experience in multi-entity, project-based, or manufacturing/distribution environments preferred (if this fits your industry).
Proven track record of strategic planning, budgeting, and financial reporting at a senior level.
Skills and Competencies
Advanced proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, advanced formulas).
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in reporting, reconciliations, and documentation.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams.
In-depth knowledge of corporate finance principles, accounting standards, internal control frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
Physical and Safety Requirements
Significant time working at a desk using a computer.
Ability to occasionally lift/move office supplies and equipment (up to 20 lbs.).
Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
