All About Assets Protection Assets Protection (AP) teams keep our guests, team, and brand secure. They mitigate shortage risks, prevent theft and fraud, and resolve incidents to ensure products are available for guests. They also build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials.
Role Overview As a Target Security Specialist, you will:
Use intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe and secure.
Respond to crises, manage safety, and provide support to guests and staff.
Employ de‑escalation techniques and use physical security controls.
Operate Target’s video surveillance system.
Accurately document cases in the case management system.
Typical Responsibilities
Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests at the front of store.
Promote a physical security culture and maintain safe standards throughout the store and exterior property.
Respond to and document security incidents promptly.
Handle guest issues to maintain a safe environment.
Use de‑escalation tactics and resources during incidents.
Conduct merchandise theft recoveries and provide apprehension support.
Prevent theft and shortages by performing merchandise receipt checks and monitoring trends.
Submit documentation in the case management system per AP policy.
Operate video surveillance system correctly.
Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
Follow all safety policies and report hazards.
Perform other duties as required by business needs.

Essential Qualifications
Be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet any state or local licensure requirements.

Communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate scanners and other technology.
Effective communication skills.
Work independently and with a team.
Prioritize and manage workload independently.
Maintain focus and composure in a fast‑paced setting.
Additional Requirements
Climb up and down ladders.
Apprehend subjects in accordance with policy.
Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, lifting up to 40 lbs.
Maintain a flexible and reliable attendance schedule.
Work in varying temperatures and humidity while performing duties.
Remain mobile throughout shifts of variable length.
