Registered Nurse - Same Day Procedure Unit Base pay range: $81,494.00/yr - $155,459.00/yr

Summary The Same Day Procedure Unit (SDPU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides care to patients prior to and immediately after various surgeries and procedures. The SDPU RN focuses on validating existing patient information and completing patient preparation. Prior to or immediately post‑operative, the SDPU RN completes duties such as physical assessment, obtaining labs, obtaining EKG, managing belongings, confirming consent, and taking history and physical.

Qualifications

English language proficiency.

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency; accredited by ACEN or CCNE.

Or individuals attending a master’s level bridge program who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor’s level degree in Nursing may become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board before completing the bridge program.

Upon obtaining a state license, the individual may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment after graduation from the bridge program.

Foreign‑educated nurses must have current, full, active, and unrestricted registration from a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth, or possess a formal degree equivalency validated by an accepted equivalency evaluation.

Graduate Nurse Technician exception: candidates meeting basic education but lacking licensure may be appointed at entry level for 120‑day temporary appointments while pursuing licensure, extendable up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis.

Preferred experience: minimum 2 years of critical/acute care, BSN preferred, same‑day or PACU experience a plus.

Physical requirements: visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; ability to walk, stand, stoop, sit, bend, pull, push; mechanical lifts provided.

Exposure to infected patients and contaminated materials, protective clothing, isolated procedures, and occasional exposure to combative patients due to delirium, dementia or psychiatric disorders.

Must complete annual employee health requirements.

Duties

Provide care and counseling to patients during pre‑operative and post‑operative phases.

Conduct peri‑procedural patient and family education using the nursing process.

Administer prescribed therapies with appropriate judgment and evaluate persistently and timely.

Initiate referrals to other disciplines and services as needed.

Accurately document findings, assessments, and care in the medical record.

Respond to emergencies, manage complex patient situations, and initiate effective action.

Demonstrate infection control precautions appropriate for the Same‑Day Patient Unit.

Assign staff to provide care based on competencies and priorities.

Promote collaborative behavior and team efforts; optimize patient experience, satisfaction, and safety.

Apply evidence‑based practice and research to improve quality of care and resource utilization.

Perform all other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the agency, department, facility, or service.
