Position Summary: The building administrator leads educational and administrative functions for the special day school, ensuring compliance with special education law and district policies.
Reporting Responsible to: Superintendent or Designee. Evaluated by: Superintendent or Designee.
Essential Duties
Makes fiscal, administrative, and instructional decisions as assigned for designated building.
Meets with central administrative staff, Cooperative Council of Superintendents, and Board of Education to make reports and carry out instructions.
Submits annual budget requests reflecting cooperative staff planning, accounts for funds, and prepares state, central office, or Board reports.
Promotes and enforces USD/Cooperative policies, regulations, and practices pertaining to the learning environment, staff support, and building operations.
Establishes standard operating procedures and routines and submits rules to the Superintendent and Director of Special Education for approval, then to the Board for final adoption.
Selects highly qualified staff, directs and supervises supplemental activity contracts, and evaluates staff including certified instructional and classified employees.
Plans, devises, and communicates all schedules of school operations with approval of the Superintendent and Director of Special Education.
Schedules school, class, or extracurricular activities and coordinates with other district administrators.
Communicates and interprets school policy to parents, students, and the public; implements continuous program of public relations and information concerning programs, services, and activities.
Keeps accurate class and student records & registers, giving direction on safekeeping and standards.
Supervises all non‑academic and academic activities, promotes health & safety policies.
Provides and monitors school ground surveillance; ensures authorized presence on grounds.
Authorizes requisitions and maintains supplies and equipment per district policy.
Attends or supervises school activities, designates qualified staff.
Investigates complaints and mediates them; refers building‑level cases to appropriate superintendents.
Utilizes technology, including office computer and administrative management software.
Designs, schedules, and oversees a comprehensive educational program to deliver FAPE through IEPs.
Promotes curriculum and SEL improvement; conducts classroom visits, planning, and faculty sessions.
Supervises and approves staff professional development goals and objectives.
Directs compilation and security of accurate student records covering attendance, academics, activities, finances, discipline, IEPs, evaluations, and personnel.
Authorizes student absence or dismissal when written authority provided, consistent with policy.
Promotes teacher contact with parents in conferences to facilitate learning.
Supervises administration of state and standardized tests.
Facilitates implementation of School Improvement Plans.
Acts as advocate and spokesperson to all stakeholders.
Ensures faculty and staff are updated on current theories and practices, making discussion a regular part of culture.
