VP Senior Underwriter & Portfolio Manager - Asset Based (Hybrid) – NY / Aerospace Hybrid role located in New York, with work also expected in Illinois and Georgia. Employees will work both from the office and remotely.

First Citizens Aerospace, Defense & Government, part of the company’s Commercial Finance group, offers asset‑backed loans for commercial aircraft, aircraft engines, aircraft parts, and cash‑flow loans to manufacturers, service providers, and private equity sponsors in the sector.

The VP Underwriting Portfolio Manager – ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government) is responsible for underwriting and portfolio management of ADG financing transactions. The role includes analysis, reporting, and the purchase or liquidation of assets within the portfolio, monitoring regulatory requirements and market trends, and modifying strategies as needed to maximize value while minimizing risk. The manager develops reports, dashboards, and other evaluation methods to communicate the portfolio status to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Underwriting – Lead underwriting of credit actions in accordance with regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Interact with customers to gather information, assess repayment viability, review financial statements, and recommend credit grades, covenants, and loan structures. Ensure all stakeholders are updated on progress and outcomes, providing leadership in daily underwriting activities.

Portfolio Management – Enhance bank earnings through portfolio transactions, ensuring liquidity to support balance‑sheet growth. Confirm transaction execution, manage risk, and support liquidity management, stress testing, assumption updates, and model validation. Create reports for management and regulators on portfolio composition, return, and risk.

Analysis – Perform analysis on portfolio positions and support liquidity management. Compile and interpret financial data to support loan structuring and approval, review industry data and risk mitigants, and produce business overviews of borrowers.

Risk Management – Identify and manage risks through review, analysis, and research of loans. Coordinate with bank associates and partners to resolve risk issues, and assist in review and renewal schedules for existing credits. Support development of strategies to manage risk within the credit portfolio.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 6 years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, or risk management.

High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, or risk management.

Preferred Skills

Bachelor’s in Business, Finance, or Economics.

Finance or Banking license.

Experience in asset‑based, corporate lending, or leasing.

Completion of a formal credit training program.

4 years of aviation financing – underwriting/portfolio management.

Salary For New York hires, base pay ranges from $155,000 to $175,000. Total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and other awards as outlined in the offer.
