Senior Product Manager – Autonomous Driving (Belmont, California)
Volkswagen of America, Inc. compensation for this role ranges from $145,000 to $190,000 per year, depending on education and experience.
Role Summary ADMT represents the Volkswagen Group as its driver for building self-driving technology. With experienced leaders in the field and collaborative partnerships with some of the world’s largest automakers, we’re building self-driving technology that is engineered to scale globally and transform mobility for millions. This position will be part of the PM team and will guide engineering work, as well as validate and improve on features in the field. With a large engineering team to support, as well as multiple partners, we’re looking for someone who embraces challenge, learns quickly, and is fundamentally excited to help us build cars that drive themselves.
Responsibilities
Lead distinct product areas and drive executional excellence across cross‑functional teams.
Translate customers’ needs into clearly defined technical requirements backed by data and comprehensive industry knowledge.
Evaluate market opportunities, define product roadmap, and launch/roll‑out strategy to scale solutions.
Engage closely with engineering and operations teams to inform decisions that balance timing, cost, features, and performance while staying true to the product strategy and vision.
Serve as a cross‑functional liaison that bridges engineering, business, operations, and regulatory considerations to drive product decisions.
Measure success and improve products using principled methods and metrics.
Find innovative ways to accelerate development, reduce risk, and improve the overall product experience; work with the company to implement these initiatives.
Qualifications Experience
7–10 years professional experience preferred.
Prior experience in product management preferred.
Education – Required
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or a related field.
Skills
Experience with software systems underpinning self‑driving vehicles, including perception, prediction, motion planning, motion control, and cloud.
Strong product sense and user empathy.
Solid understanding of technical systems and architecture.
Ability to work with diverse technologies, processes, and systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Belief in rigorous, high‑quality engineering that delivers tangible results quickly.
Willingness and ability to learn new software systems quickly.
Demonstrated ability to achieve strategic goals in an innovative fast‑paced environment.
Excellent problem‑solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
Ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Understanding of logistics and operational components inherent in a transportation business at scale.
Work Flexibility
Readiness for international business trips to ADMT GmbH, Volkswagen AG (Germany).
Flexibility to travel within the U.S. and Europe.
