Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer Location:

Boston, MA — 4 days onsite (parking available; shuttle access from nearby transit)

Our client is seeking a Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer to serve as the operational and engineering backbone of their Microsoft ecosystem. This role oversees tenant-wide services, executes architectural standards, drives automation-first operations, and ensures reliability, security, and a seamless user experience across the Microsoft 365 platform.

The ideal candidate is a Microsoft stack expert with deep experience across Office 365, licensing, deployment, troubleshooting, Azure, SharePoint administration, and Microsoft’s product lifecycle and pricing models. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role may include presenting new features, guiding adoption, and partnering closely with technical and non-technical teams.

Microsoft 365 Administration

Administer and maintain Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.

Manage Entra ID objects, Conditional Access policies, MFA, identity lifecycle, and directory hygiene.

Operate Intune for device onboarding, compliance policies, app deployment, and security baselines.

Implement reference designs and architectural standards in a scalable, repeatable manner.

Build and maintain PowerShell and Graph-based automations for provisioning, reporting, remediation, and license optimization.

Lead feature deployments, new product rollouts, pilots, and migrations.

Security & Compliance

Enforce DLP, retention, sensitivity labels, Conditional Access, and Defender controls.

Maintain audit and compliance reporting; support assessments, investigations, and remediation.

Power Platform & ALM

Administer environments, connectors, DLP policies, and solution lifecycle pipelines.

Provide guardrail-based support for citizen developers and review data access patterns.

Provision Teams and SharePoint sites; implement metadata, search, and content lifecycle patterns.

Support migrations from legacy file services or legacy SharePoint environments into SharePoint Online.

Service Management

Provide telemetry, usage insights, and support capacity planning and license optimization.

Serve as a Tier 2/3 escalation point for complex issues (e.g., cross-platform Teams app behavior).

Engage Microsoft Premier/Unified Support for escalations and proactive services.

Qualifications Required

5+ years of enterprise-scale Microsoft 365 administration (1,000+ users).

Deep expertise in Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint/OneDrive, Entra ID, Intune, and Defender.

Strong PowerShell and Microsoft Graph automation experience.

Proven experience driving tenant-wide changes, migrations, and complex troubleshooting.

Working knowledge of Purview (retention, DLP, eDiscovery) and security baselines.

Preferred

Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert and/or Messaging/Teams/Endpoint Administrator.

Experience with Power Platform administration and CI/CD/ALM practices.

Background working in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
