Electrical Studies Engineer – Senior Level Company: POWER Engineers, Member of WSP

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Salary: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00

Overview POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, is currently initiating a search for an Electrical Studies Engineer – Senior Level for our Boise, ID office.

You will be involved in projects with our SCADA and Analytical Services Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.

As a Senior Electrical Studies Engineer, you will provide subject matter technical support and leadership for multi‑site, phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight and collect, compile and analyze data from the field site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, substation components, and equipment specifications for procurement package development and pricing, IFR/IRC detailed design and review processes, and IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NCEC, and NERC standards for design work.

Apply high‑level electrical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.

Perform design studies such as substation grounding, corona and electric and magnetic fields, insulation coordination (lightning, switching surge, and contamination performance), transient (time‑domain) simulation, power quality (harmonics, voltage flicker, over/under voltage), motor starting, AC interference (transmission line interaction with railroads and pipelines).

Travel as required and work successfully in a customer‑focused, project‑oriented environment.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are Driven, experienced electrical engineer with a proven track record in utilities, industrial, or commercial power projects.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

10+ years of post‑education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.

Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).

Highly proficient in electrical engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to permitting and project work‑related issues.

Proficient in technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.

Willingness to travel on occasion.

Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Training and/or power‑system courses covering protective relaying, symmetrical components, transmission line theory, power‑system transients, dynamic stability, and power‑system electromagnetics.

Professional registration preferred; preference for registered professional engineers (P.E., P. En).

Experience with applicable software packages for those disciplines.

Experience in customer‑focused engineering projects in the technical areas above.
