The Senior Test Engineer (STE) works closely with Creation's Customer Focused Team and is responsible for the commissioning, validation, sustaining and support of customer supplied, and Creation designed test systems. The STE will ensure that exceptional test procedures and test system documentation are available to allow smooth production flow. As the STE, you will use your strong grounding in Design for Test (DFT) and manufacturing philosophy, to define the test process, methods, improvements, equipment, and tools necessary to result in high production yields. Our customers will see you as an extension to their test engineering team, as you propose DFT recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce cost and improve quality. You will work in collaboration with the production team to troubleshoot, and support root cause analysis of test failures related to supplier quality, SMT or final assembly. The STE will ensure that test related engineering changes are properly implemented. This position directly reports to the Engineering / Test Engineering Leader and supports the Customer Focused Teams.
Duties / Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor Junior Test Engineers & Technicians
Work with Customer Test Teams to establish optimum production test strategies
Understand and implement DFT philosophy
Collaborate with fixture developers and suppliers, and coordinate procurement of test equipment
Communicate with customers, suppliers, and technical support teams to resolve test issues
Troubleshoot and debug test system hardware and software
Maintain, upgrade, and repair test systems and fixtures
Develop and revision-control test system documentation
Commission and validate test systems for functionality, performance, and test coverage
Provide technical guidance, training, and support for production test teams
Support continuous improvement of manufacturing test systems already in production
Participate in Quality Assurance meetings and investigate test-related issues
Participate in team meetings, providing feedback & reports as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent
Minimum 10 years experience in a manufacturing test environment
Advanced knowledge of digital and analog circuitry, electronic components, and PCB design
Solid understanding of DFT principles and test strategy development methods
Required Skills
Expert in the use of test and measurement instrumentation, including analog, digital & RF
Expert in the use of standard test equipment such as Oscilloscopes & Function Generators
Working knowledge of In‑circuit Test, Boundary Scan and Flying Probe
Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
Proficient in the use of FMEA methods
Debug of test systems using design of experiments, tools, and failure analysis methodologies
Strong technical documentation abilities
Able to understand and create electrical schematic diagrams
Able to gather technical data, compile information, and provide recommendations
Demonstrate initiative, independent judgment and creativity
Excellent communicator in both spoken and written English
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Expert ability to sort, filter, and analyze data in Excel
Excellent at presenting to and meeting customers in person
Able to manage and prioritize several projects at once
Basic soldering and wiring skills
Beneficial Skills
Proven experience developing automated test systems preferably in a manufacturing test environment
Extensive knowledge of test and measurement instrumentation including test automation and PC based I/O and data acquisition hardware
Experience using PXI or LXI instrumentation
Use of advanced RF test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers & Power Meters
Design and develop test fixtures and associated test software
Ability to develop test software in NI LabVIEW/TestStand or Visual Studio (C++, C#, VB)
Experience using Aster TestWay
Design experience using In‑circuit Test, Boundary Scan or Flying Probe
Ability to design PCB schematics and PCB layout using CAD software
Aptitude for mechanical and electro‑mechanical concepts
Project Management experience
Working Environment Physical Demands: As expected within a typical office type environment but may on occasion spend an extended amount of time standing or walking in a production environment. Must have enough strength to safely manoeuvre around equipment or materials, and lift 25 lbs without injury. Visual requirements: close vision (clear at 20 inches or less), colour vision, depth perception.
Mental Demands: Emotionally capable of professionally handling high‑pressure situations in a fast‑paced, highly demanding industry.
Working Conditions: Equal mix of office and production environment. Required safety clothing and gear when working in safety sensitive environments.
