DC Affordable Law Firm (DCALF) seeks a Probate & Estate Planning Supervising Attorney to lead and supervise the firm’s growing Probate & Estate Planning practice. The role combines direct client representation, fellow mentorship, and practice development within a hybrid remote/in‑person model that requires regular travel to DC Superior Court and the DCALF office.
Position Overview The Supervising Attorney will mentor recent law graduates, co‑counsel cases, and guide attorneys through case strategy, filings, and client‑centered best practices. The position reports to the Probate & Estate Planning Managing Attorney and works closely with DCALF leadership to foster an equitable, collaborative work environment.
Responsibilities
Supervise and mentor fellows, staff attorneys, and other legal team members, providing guidance in all phases of estate administration and planning cases.
Assess staff capacity, allocate work, and monitor compliance with DCALF policies and procedures.
Lead regular practice case rounds, internal training, and external stakeholder meetings as needed.
Maintain a modest case load, co‑counsel cases, and participate in community events to advance equity initiatives and knowledge of community legal resources.
Assist in drafting grant reports, applications, and contribute to the firm’s development initiatives.
Work Environment The role is hybrid remote/in‑person. The candidate must travel to DC Superior Court and the DCALF office at least two days per week and reside in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.
Compensation & Benefits This full‑time salaried, non‑exempt position starts at $79,310 for a candidate with one year of supervisory experience, with salary increases based on supervisory experience. Additional benefits include a Spanish Language stipend ($2,500 annually for Spanish proficiency), 401(k) retirement plan with 3% employer match, comprehensive medical and optional dental/vision insurance, generous paid leave, paid parental/family leave through the DC Paid Family Leave Program, ongoing training opportunities, and eligibility for the DC Bar Foundation Loan Repayment Assistance Program.
