Qualifications
- A proven track record, preferably within Christian higher education, demonstrating strong support of CCU’s mission and Strategic Priorities.
- A Ph.D. or Ed.D. and a minimum of five to ten years of teaching experience at the Professor rank, preferred within Christian higher education, and a minimum of five to ten years of progressive leadership/administration experience. This includes a track record of engaging in academic scholarship, setting operational priorities, and achieving academic and business success through leading people, systems, and programs.
- Experience fostering a culture of academic excellence, rigor, innovation, and continuous among faculty, staff, and students.
- Experience ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements governing Christian academic programs and operations.
- Evidence of inspiring collegial and collaborative engagement to accomplish significant goals.
- A well‑developed business acumen, with relevant analytics and decision‑making skills.

Key Job Duties
Mission Contribution

In this role, the Provost contributes by providing leadership and vision to the academic branch, integrating faith and learning in a scholarly environment that fosters critical and thinking, academic excellence, and professional competence.
Strategic Planning
- Articulate a consistent vision and advocate CCU’s mission and Strategic Priorities motivate faculty to align.
- Lead formulation and implementation of an academic strategic plan for each school; guide program evaluation to keep offerings competitive and innovative.
- Lead accreditation processes and ensure CCU meets or exceeds accreditation requirements; oversee related work with workshops and required program accreditations.
- Represent university academics in daily operations with the President and/or Cabinet.
- Schedule and lead regular deans’ council meetings, school/department meetings, providing guidance and performance evaluations per the University Performance Model and department KPIs.
Communications
- Provide clear leadership communication to deans, faculty, and academic programs to enhance academic excellence in teaching.
- Communicate effectively with each dean, providing constructive and honest feedback for each school/department, addressing needs and issues.
- Promote healthy communication, disseminating appropriate information related to university goals and strategic plans.
- Conduct regular meetings with the deans’ council, fostering a culture of collegiality, professionalism, and collaboration.
Budget
- Manage assigned budgets in partnership with the President and VP of Finance to construct a sound budget meeting student and faculty needs.
- Ensure responsible use of departmental budgets, including grants and other funding.
- Align faculty hiring and staffing with budgetary constraints.
Faculty and Staff
- Recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified faculty and staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Oversee faculty promotion process and maintain consistency in portfolio review.
- Invest in faculty development; design plans and ensure onboarding of new faculty.
- Coach, mentor, and establish systems to support faculty performance; maintain appropriate records.
- Calibrate KPIs using the University Performance Model.
- Maintain regular one‑on‑one meetings and annual KPI reviews with direct reports.
- Update and revise the Faculty Handbook as needed.
Curriculum and Student Support
- Supervise design, delivery, and assessment of each school’s curriculum, ensuring high‑quality education and student achievement.
- Plan for short‑term and long‑term curricular needs.
- Collaborate with departments to develop plans supporting student recruitment, retention, and graduation rates.
- Work with deans/faculty to resolve academic misconduct, grading concerns, and related issues.
Additional Responsibilities
- Guide the academic strategic plan for the University; focus invites, funnels, and organizational growth.
- Organize and lead crucial meetings (e.g., Savannah sessions, panel discussions reporting structures, university oversight, radar, BSU day). Note: these are part of the Provost’s leadership role.
