Job Description
The Director – Assistant General Counsel, Labor, Employment & Benefits will lead all aspects of the employee relationship for U.S. employees, providing expert counsel on complex legal matters and company‑led initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, Human Resources, and business partners, providing expert legal counsel on all aspects of the employment relationship, including wage and hour laws, discrimination and harassment, leaves of absence, accommodations, benefits, performance management, employee discipline, and terminations.
- Manage complex legal matters, including employment‑related litigation, arbitrations, administrative claims, and pre‑litigation disputes, directing outside counsel and developing litigation strategy in coordination with internal stakeholders.
- Serve as a key legal advisor on workforce initiatives and organizational changes (e.g., restructurings, integrations, M&A activities).
- Provide legal guidance on employee benefits plans, ERISA compliance, executive compensation arrangements, incentive plans, and related disclosure obligations under securities laws.
- Advise on the legal implications of HR and business strategies, policies, and practices across jurisdictions.
- Support HR and Total Rewards teams on the design and administration of benefit programs and policies.
- Develop and deliver legal training to HR, business leaders, and managers on employment law compliance and best practices.
- Monitor state law and regulatory developments, assess business impact, and drive proactive compliance strategies.
- Collaborate closely with HR, Compliance, Risk, and Finance functions to ensure alignment and mitigate legal exposure.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; licensed and in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, or an equivalent combination of human resources and legal experience, with significant in‑house experience or experience with a law firm advising large company clients on employment matters.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Learning agility and the ability to calibrate risk and provide clear, practical legal advice in a fast‑paced environment.
Additional Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and/or outside counsel.
- Prior experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
Location & Travel
Remote USA. Travel: 10%. No relocation assistance. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

Base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible.
