Global Legal Counsel - Litigation - Associate Director

Join EY as a Global Legal Counsel – Litigation – Associate Director. In this role you will defend claims made against EY, including misconduct and breach of contract, and manage all aspects of litigation, mediation, arbitration, and regulatory investigation.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the Global General Counsel’s Office (GCO) team, you will actively manage the defense of litigation, respond to subpoenas and investigations, and advise on compliance with applicable laws and firm policies. Your work will address compliance, risk management, and preserve EY’s reputation and financial interests.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Handle all aspects of litigation, enforcement matters, investigations, and internal investigations.
  • Advise on cross‑border issues and matters that could have a significant financial or reputational impact to EY.
  • Consult with partners and stakeholders to avoid significant civil, criminal, or regulatory exposure.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory subpoenas, drafting preservation notices, and ensuring compliance.
  • Advise on professional responsibility, risk management, conflicts of interest, and discovery issues.
  • Formulate defense strategies for active litigation matters and advise stakeholders.
  • Manage outside counsel spend and maintain effective relationships.
  • Interview expert witnesses and personnel for litigation purposes.
  • Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations to resolve disputes cost‑effectively.
  • Prepare legal documents including briefs, pleadings, discovery requests, and witness preparation.
  • Develop and recommend EY policy and positions on legal issues.

To Qualify for the Role You Must Have

  • Strong autonomy in making nuanced decisions involving litigation, criminal, and regulatory proceedings.
  • Experience as an attorney with significant litigation, including trial experience.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities to synthesize facts and law.
  • Understanding of laws, rules, and regulations applicable to EY and its industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage all levels of EY personnel.
  • Demonstrated project execution ability with multiple simultaneous deadlines.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills for managing outside counsel.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4‑year college; top of class preferred.
  • Law degree from a top law school; top of class preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Active license as an attorney in the jurisdiction of the resident EY office.

What We Offer You

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package. Base salary ranges: $210,900 – $406,000 (U.S.) with higher ranges for major markets. Benefits include medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k), paid time off, and a flexible work model that blends remote and in‑office collaboration.
