This role serves as the undergraduate advisor for the Legal Studies program in the School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley.

Position Summary
The Advisor develops and implements student services and programs, provides academic advice, assists in program planning, manages program files, coordinates commencement, and serves as liaison with other university offices.
Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality per FERPA and advise students on career and academic matters.
- Identify barriers to academic success, refer students to counseling services, and manage complex student issues.
- Advise on course options, scheduling, transfer credits, and degree completion requirements.
- Enroll students requiring specialized enrollment assistance and handle re‑entry, transfer, and EAP cases.
- Process exceptions to requirements and confirm degree milestones.
- Recommend academic sanctions such as probation or dismissal when necessary.
- Advise on eligibility for Independent Study, Honors, and scholarships.
- Serve as primary contact for community‑college advisors, prospective students, and parents.
Program Administration
- Train and support instructors, GSIs, and faculty on advising issues and program policies.
- Assist in curriculum planning to ensure compliance with campus policies.
- Prepare and submit required course approval forms.
- Monitor enrollment, manage waitlists, oversee grading, and schedule exams.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Student Development Programming
- Design and implement orientation workshops and career‑development programs.
- Coordinate commencement protocols and staff logistics.
- Maintain career resources via listserve and website, and oversee publications.
University Relations
- Represent the program at College, Advising, Registrar, and Career Engagement offices.
- Serve on campus committees and attend relevant meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in advising and counseling techniques.
- Comprehensive knowledge of academic advising practices and degree requirements.
- Understanding of campus policies, FERPA, and California privacy laws.
- Ability to resolve complex academic and administrative challenges.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Computer proficiency with Google, Microsoft, and database software.
- Experience in academic advising or student services in higher education.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Legal Studies curriculum and policies.
- Experience advising students in a legal or related discipline.
- Knowledge of university‑specific software (e.g., ASSIST.org).
Salary & Benefits
Annual salary range: $72,850.00 – $85,700.00. Position is non‑exempt and paid biweekly.
