PACS Applications Analyst II – Boston Medical Center (BMC)
Position Summary
The PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) Applications Analyst II is a business specialist and technology generalist responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategies. The role proactively identifies opportunities to apply technologies to business processes, informing and advising customers on information system technologies’ functionality, costs, benefits, and implementation requirements. It functions as a technical liaison and broker of services with various vendors and develops strong working relationships with both customer management and IT personnel. The analyst demonstrates an understanding of business problems, IT strategies, issues, and priorities, and seeks to improve business processes within strategic system goals.
Additional responsibilities include design, build, installation, integration, data migration, testing, support, and core functions for several imaging IT systems; maintaining operations and system upgrades to PACS, system archive, and workstations; monitoring software and hardware-related issues (disk space, device configuration, backup); assessing department needs; troubleshooting hardware and software problems; working closely with clinical staff to optimize workflow, resolve issues, and implement upgrades; and providing end‑user training as needed.
The role fosters and cultivates physician and vendor relationships, develops imaging application policies, may travel between campuses and community partners, and participates in rotating on‑call support.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain Sectra IDS7 PACS, Powerscribe, LifeIMAGE, Powershare, MIM, Xeleris, Terarecon, Intelispace, GE AW, DICOM Routers, DICOM Systems, Candelis, DATQuant, Hologic, and other radiology‑related systems.
- Diagnose and resolve radiology system issues promptly; perform regular system maintenance, updates, and optimizations.
- Implement and configure DICOM Modality setups, ensuring seamless communication between devices and systems.
- Collaborate with radiologists, technicians, and other staff to understand system needs; provide training and support to maximize system utilization.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and compliance standards; ensure adherence to healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Provide support to customers in defining or designing business processes and identifying enabling technologies based on requirements.
- Research and provide information on technical trends and competitive practices; assess near‑term needs and coordinate multi‑system solutions.
- Advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities.
- Coordinate with IT functional areas to track project status and inform customer management of progress.
- Resolve software issues independently or by engaging appropriate parties; document all project plans and coordinate implementation resources.
- Participate in on‑call customer support rotation during normal business hours and off‑hours.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Experience Desired
- Experience in business process re‑engineering or process improvement using broad‑based information systems.
- Experience in strategic use of technology for business growth.
- Experience planning and executing projects from vision through implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors.
- Knowledge of DICOM and HL7 is a plus.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years relevant experience in business systems analysis or business unit experience working closely with IT to develop and implement systems.
- Sector and Epic knowledge preferred.

- Strong technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in business‑friendly terms.
- Understanding of project management concepts and cross‑functional implementation.
- Strong written communication skills, including project documentation and technical writing.
- Strong verbal communication skills with team members, IT departments, end users, and other organizational departments.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills; track record of new concept development for projects and complex plans.
- Problem‑solving ability across multiple environments.
- Understanding of IT’s impact on an organization and ability to link it to redesigned business processes.
- Team player, flexible, friendly, congenial, and enthusiastic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Compensation Range
$66,500.00 – $96,500.00
