About the Organization

A respected nonprofit organization serving Northeast Florida is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead all financial operations and support the organization’s mission of advancing economic, social, and housing justice for underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial strategy in alignment with organizational goals, partnering closely with the President and CEO and the Executive Management Team.
  • Provide clear financial reporting and guidance to the board, including participation in budgeting, long‑range planning, and selection of outside advisors such as auditors and investment consultants.
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable, cash receipts, reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting.
  • Manage organizational budgeting processes, tracking, forecasting, reconciliation, and reporting of financial metrics internally and externally.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and audit requirements across all accounts and ledgers.
  • Oversee grant‑related budgeting, financial compliance, and reporting for government, corporate, and foundation funding.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and manage financial, compliance, and regulatory audits.
  • Develop cash flow forecasting, optimize banking relationships, and create strategies to strengthen cash positions.
  • Prepare and present financial and compliance updates to leadership and program teams regularly.
  • Supervise and mentor an accounting team of two staff accountants, providing coaching, performance evaluations, and tools for professional development.
  • Support internal stakeholders by improving accounting systems, processes, and customer service delivery.
  • Collaborate with leaders across operations, HR, technology, development, and program units to ensure financial alignment and support.
  • Serve as secondary fiduciary for the organization’s 401(k) plan and oversee annual plan reporting and audit.
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure successful financial operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of progressive finance experience with strong accounting, budgeting, auditing, and compliance exposure.
  • Background in the nonprofit sector strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing finance functions within a multi‑location, multi‑funder, or division‑based organization.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing grants management activities tied to budgeting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with budgeting and accounting software and database management.
  • Advanced Excel capability.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator able to partner with executive leadership, program staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA and/or MBA.
  • Experience with MIP Sage, Abila, or similar systems.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $100,000 to $120,000.
  • Hybrid work model.
