Technical Design & Strategy

Technical Design & Strategy is a newly created department within Campus Services, dedicated to advancing human-centered design and enhancing the user experience for all Campus Services technology. This team leads the development and integration of innovative solutions that streamline processes, modernize technology platforms, and ensure secure, reliable access to campus resources. With a focus on collaboration, accessibility, and continuous improvement, Technical Design & Strategy works to make every interaction with Campus Services technology intuitive, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the Georgia Tech community.

Job Summary

The Director of Information Technology I will plan, organize, and oversee the information technology support function for a campus unit. This includes the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of hardware and software systems required to meet the unit's information technology needs. The role is also responsible for setting employee goals, determining organizational structure to meet those goals, assessing performance, providing feedback, and recommending pay actions.

Responsibilities

  • Direct unit IT support staff personnel including staffing, formulation and assignment of goals, performance assessment, and employee development.
  • Formulate unit IT budget and manage related expenditures.
  • Oversee ongoing review of unit information needs and formulate and implement plans required to meet those needs.
  • Coordinate/communicate unit IT plans, programs and activities with OIT as appropriate.
  • May serve as unit representative on campus-wide information technology advisory groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience, including 4+ years of supervisory knowledge.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of unit level information technology infrastructure including related software and hardware.
  • Skills: Skills in strategic planning, budget formulation and management, management of technical professionals, oral and written communication, IT policy development and administration, project management, process engineering/reengineering, relational database administration and application of performance metrics.

Salary Range: $124,950 to $140,000
