Compensation: $190,000-$240,000/year

As an Engineering Manager, you will be reporting to the VP of Engineering. We are looking for a candidate who is dedicated to the high-quality production of Virtru's digital privacy products. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for both the team’s technical success—including their contributions to the open-source OpenTDF project—and the professional growth paths for your engineers.

The ideal candidate will have a natural passion for digital privacy, software development, and solving complex problems. You thrive on tackling engineering challenges related to data security, scalability, and distributed systems.

As an Engineering Manager, your background will include:

  • A passion for mentoring and developing engineers along their personal development path.
  • Proven expertise in software architecture and design patterns, particularly in building and managing highly available, scalable backend services.
  • Strong understanding of Agile development principles and a passion for failing fast and constantly iterating.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing a cross-functional engineering team of 5 or more.
  • At least 5 years as a hands-on Software Engineer in a language like Go, Java, or C++.
  • Willingness to pitch in where needed and obsessively unblock engineers.
  • A hands-on leadership style: you stay close to the code and technology, actively participating in design discussions, architectural decisions, and code reviews to guide your team.

Skills that will help you thrive in this role:

  • Experience deploying and managing solutions in an on-premise or air-gapped environment using DevOps practices.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS (EC2, SQS, S3, ElastiCache) or GCP.
  • Experience contributing to or managing a team involved in an open-source project.
  • Experience using NoSQL and/or relational data stores.
  • Professional background in data security, cryptography, or identity management.

Virtruvian qualities that will set you up for success:

  • Thinking outside of the box to respectfully challenge your teammates and managers in the pursuit of excellence
  • Strong sense of urgency with an action-oriented mindset
  • Able to collaborate and adapt to shifting priorities as business needs evolve
  • Comfortable with asynchronous communication including slack, email, zoom, etc.

At Virtru, we believe people do their best work when their wellbeing is put first. This is why we make your wellbeing our priority with a thoughtful and holistic program that encompasses Occupational, Mental, Social, Physical, and Environmental Wellness by offering benefits such as:

  • A Flexible PTO policy — we strongly encourage you to take time off to ensure that you are getting the proper time needed to unplug and recharge.

  • Frequent company-sponsored team celebrations that provide ample opportunities to connect with teammates and be social!
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program
  • Access to Headspace, a mental health app tailored to your specific needs.
  • A flat 3% contribution to your retirement account
  • A high degree of flexibility — Have an appointment, errand, or family emergency to take care of? We give you the time and space to take care of you and your own first.
