Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Continuing Dental Education in the Office of Continuing Dental Education, Department of Academic Affairs, at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Assistant Director of Continuing Dental Education provides complex and confidential support services and assists in the development, direction, implementation, and evaluation of continuing dental education programs. The position also assists faculty and staff of RSDM and coordinates program budgets, schedules, facilities, publicity, logistics, and related activities. Additionally, the position assists in the direction of clerical staff in the coordination of a variety of administrative and confidential activities within the division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops, recommends, and implements policies and plans for the operation, coordination and improvement of Continuing Dental Education programs.
- Performs long and short-range programmatic needs analyses. Determines need for revisions of existing and/or creation of new programs. Integrates proposed programs into the existing framework of educational activities.
- Assists in the determination of educational needs of dental related professionals and cooperative work with faculty, administration and staff to develop appropriate educational activities to meet these needs.
- Assigns, supervises and evaluates the work of support staff.
- Assists in reviewing department procedures, materials, activities, and evaluation their administration, objectives, efficiency, effectiveness and suitability to current conditions, and cost accomplishments using established procedures and standards.
- Assists in the investigation and development of solutions to problem areas, identifies and works toward the elimination of unnecessary and/or wasteful administrative practices; helps to determine where program and/or administration duplication may exist.
- Works with the Executive Director and RSDM Finance to evaluate CDE accounting processes, reporting systems for assessing work performance, revenues, and expenditures and preparation of reports.
- Prepares budget plans for programming and operations and assists in evaluating budget requests and makes recommendations at the request of the Director.
- Maintains awareness of ADA CERP and State Board(s) requirements and disseminates pertinent information to faculty and support staff as appropriate. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assists in administrative planning, administrative and procedural studies and introducing new techniques and methods to improve administration.
- Assists in the development of the marketing schedule and the maintenance of the CDE Website, including updating the course calendar, posting special program announcements, and sending email blasts to promote CDE courses using Constant Contact and Learning Stream lists.
- Assists in the Brochure and catalog preparation of information to be sent to graphic designer. Also coordinates printing, mailing and mailing lists services.
- Coordinates the Clinical Preceptorship application and enrollment process.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in education, public administration or a health-related discipline, a total of seven (7) years of experience.
- Four (4) years of progressively more responsible experience in administration or supervision.
- Applicants may substitute appropriate related experience for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.
- Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Certifications/Licenses
- A valid driver’s license is required and must be able to drive to off‑site locations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with health care delivery systems education of health professionals, continuing education accreditation and current issues in those fields, including but not limited to CEU / CDE process.
- Must be PC literate and have experience with Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Access and Canvas).
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience in Adult and Continuing Education for Health Professionals preferred.
- Familiarity with meeting registration software (Learning Stream) and Constant Contact is a plus.
Salary Details
Minimum Salary: $116,601.00
Mid Range Salary: $147,501.00
Maximum Salary: $178,400.00

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to move audio‑visual equipment on rolling carts throughout the buildings.
- Must be able to move course materials and equipment into car and onto rolling carts.
