OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Project & Operations Director with a strong background in architecture, construction, business development, and business management to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a professional who not only excels in project delivery and client relationships but also has the ambition and capability to lead and eventually oversee the entire commercial architecture division, including P& L responsibility and strategic growth. We see our target for 2026 and beyond being accelerated growth in the Data Center Market and Government Sector.
REPORTING STRUCTURE Reports directly to the Owner and Vice President and is located in St. Charles, IL.
RESPONSIBILITIES Project Management Oversee multiple projects from concept design through construction administration. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Coordinate with the project team and verify that the project aligns with growth strategies and company policies. Oversee project financials, schedules, and resources. Track KPIs and implement course corrections to drive performance.
Business Development & Client Relations Identify and pursue new opportunities, including private and public sector clients. Understand target markets and implement growth strategies. Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and partnerships. Oversee the preparation of and delivery of proposals, presentations, and RFP responses. Represent the firm at industry events and networking functions to enhance visibility and drive new business.
Strategic & Business Leadership Partner with firm leadership to develop and execute a strategic plan for the firm’s growth. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and performance metrics for projects. Support recruitment, mentoring, and development of team members. Review current and establish operational processes and standards to ensure scalable growth and efficiency. Take full ownership of P&L performance as the role evolves.
REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture, Construction Management, or related fields. Minimum 8-12 years of experience in architecture or design-related project management, preferably with commercial project experience (corporate, mixed-use, retail or institutional). Proven success in business development and client relationship management. Strong understanding of architectural design and construction processes. Demonstrated experience with financial management of projects or business units (budgeting, forecasting, P&L). Exceptional communication, leadership, and negotiation skills. Licensed Architect preferred but not required. Proficiency or familiarity in project management tools and design software (Revit, AutoCAD, MS 365, Bluebeam, Procore etc.)
SUCCESSION This role is designed as a succession position with the clear path to leading the business. As performance milestone are achieved, this individual has the opportunity to transition into a Principal role overseeing operations, business development, financial performance, and team leadership for the firm.
POSITION BENEFITS Base salary range: $150,000 - $175,000, commensurate with experience. A full range of benefits including medical, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as short-term and long-term disability. IRA match, and future potential for stock bonus/ownership.
