Job Summary The Executive Director Research Information Technology leads the IT department to support GTRI research initiatives while ensuring security, scalability, and compliance. Oversee design, implementation, and management of IT solutions that align with research objectives and meet government cybersecurity regulations. Provide the research teams with secure, cutting‑edge IT support for DoD projects.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic planning, design, and implementation of the organization’s IT infrastructure and systems to support research operations and compliance.
Oversee management and optimization of research IT systems, networks, and data storage, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency; collaborate with leadership on strategy alignment; provide progress updates to executive leadership.
Direct the IT team to design and implement secure research infrastructure for data storage, compute, networking, and cloud solutions, enabling seamless collaboration within the DoD research environment.
Ensure all research IT systems and infrastructure comply with DFARS 252.204‑7012, NIST SP 800‑171, and other cybersecurity regulations and standards; conduct risk assessments, audits, vulnerability management.
Develop, implement, and manage IT policies and procedures covering data protection, network security, access control, disaster recovery, business continuity, and regular review/updates.
Lead procurement of IT technologies and services; evaluate new technologies, recommend solutions, manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts.
Ensure IT projects related to research systems are executed on time, within budget, and align with security and compliance requirements; collaborate across teams to define requirements and assess risks.
Oversee budgeting and resource allocation to support IT initiatives; optimize utilization of human, hardware, and software resources.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement; provide mentorship and career development for staff.
Perform other assigned duties.
Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Eight or more years of relevant experience, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience reorganizing and streamlining processes and business unit structures to enhance operational effectiveness and security of research IT infrastructure.
Experience preparing strategic plans addressing customer requirements.
Excellent communication skills with extensive experience delivering presentations and conducting meetings to high‑level executives and stakeholders.
Leadership experience managing strategic IT initiatives and compliance for an organization.
Preferred Educational Qualifications Master’s degree in a related discipline; advanced certification may be preferred or required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Work closely with the Chief Information Officer to successfully align strategic IT initiatives with organizational goals and compliance requirements; engage sponsors and research leadership to understand and strategize IT needs; represent researchers’ interests to advocate for IT resources to support research missions.
