Primary Functions & Responsibilities
Lead by example in our Incident Free Culture.
Work a 2x2 week rotation while on shift for all emergencies.
Coordinate and safely execute the emergency response training program, including:
Facility Emergencies
Structural Fire Suppression and related activities
State of Alaska Firefighter I program
Company‑level fire officer training
Medical emergency response
Haz‑Mat Operations
Oversee operational readiness of all fire apparatus, tools, and support equipment.
Teach and coordinate Respiratory Inspection and Fire Extinguisher training classes.
Oversee respiratory service and maintenance program.
Participate in all emergency and non‑emergency operations for the Fire Department and Rescue Team.
Assume On‑Scene Commander role for spill or hazardous materials events in the absence of the Emergency Services Chief.
Critical staff for NS‑Wide Spill Response.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Current, valid driver’s license.
Associate’s degree in fire/EMS related field or equivalent.
State of Alaska certified EMT II or higher level licensing designation (or ability to obtain reciprocity).
Certified Firefighter I or higher (IFSAC/Pro Board).
3+ years of experience leading and motivating emergency response volunteers.
Minimum 5+ years of experience with EMS practices, safety requirements, best practices, incident command system, NIMS, emergency equipment, and training methods.
Preferred Qualifications
7+ years of progressively responsible fire and EMS service experience.
Bachelor’s degree in fire, emergency management, EMS, or related field.
Certified Fire Service Instructor I or higher (IFSAC/Pro Board).
Experience working with a career/volunteer combination department.
EMS patient care and transport experience; Paramedic preferred.
Experience developing and evaluating training programs, assessment, planning strategies, and achieving performance results.
Certified Incident Safety Officer.
Passion for training with education, certification, and instructional credentials.
Demonstrated skills to maintain and present data, records, and reports.
Takes accountability for actions and follows through on commitments.
Acts actively, communicates, and takes time to perform work safely to protect people and environment.
Mentors, coaches, and develops others to bring out their full potential.
Builds positive relationships across organizations that foster a strong work environment.
