Inpatient Psychiatry Attending Physician

Woodhull Medical Center, an affiliate of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, is looking for innovative medical leaders who believe patients deserve the highest quality healthcare service. Woodhull Medical Center is a 364‑bed hospital providing primary, specialty, and acute care services to the residents of Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick, and North Brooklyn. The Department of Psychiatry offers a stimulating work environment for both in‑patient and out‑patient services. We are currently seeking full‑time psychiatric attendings who can provide care to individuals with a wide range of mental illnesses within a collaborative team setting. Candidates must be Board Certified or Board Eligible.
This unique role primarily serves as the hospital’s psychiatric representative in Mental Hygiene Court proceedings (with a focus on Ughetto hearings) while also providing vacation and coverage support for attending psychiatrists on our inpatient psychiatric units.
The ideal candidate will have strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with legal, clinical, and administrative teams to ensure high‑quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities Court Representation
Serve as the hospital’s designated psychiatric representative in Mental Hygiene Court for Ughetto hearings and related legal proceedings.
Collaborate with hospital legal counsel, risk management, and clinical teams to prepare testimony, affidavits, and clinical documentation.
Provide expert psychiatric opinion and ensure representation aligns with patient care standards, ethical principles, and applicable laws.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide vacation and absence coverage for attending psychiatrists on inpatient psychiatric units.
Conduct psychiatric evaluations, daily rounds, and treatment planning as needed.
Supervise and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including residents, psychologists, nurses, and social workers.
Participate in patient‑centered care with an emphasis on safety, stabilization, and recovery‑oriented treatment.
Administrative & Collaborative Duties
Ensure clinical documentation meets hospital, state, and federal requirements.
Attend departmental meetings, case conferences, and continuing education sessions as appropriate.
Contribute to ongoing quality improvement and compliance initiatives related to inpatient psychiatry and legal proceedings.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
Eligible for medical licensure in the State of NY.
Experience in inpatient psychiatry required; prior forensic psychiatry or court testimony experience strongly preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Schedule & Workload
Primarily weekday hours aligned with Mental Hygiene Court scheduling.
Flexible coverage assignments based on departmental needs.
On‑call responsibilities may be assigned as negotiated.
Compensation & Benefits We offer a competitive compensation package and a stimulating work environment, which includes the following:
Annual Base Salary: $271,000‑$281,000 (total compensation including bonuses ranging from $301,000‑$311,000)
403(b)/457 participation inclusive of a 10% employer contribution with no employee match required
Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) reimbursement ranging from $3,000‑$3,500 inclusive of one week of paid CME time
Projected annual revenue sharing payments of up to $30,000 contingent upon meeting required productivity and compliance metrics
24 annual vacation days, 12 sick days, 12 recognized holidays
