The Opportunity Mattel, Inc. is seeking a creative Associate Packaging Engineer to join its team of innovative packaging professionals. This position has the possibility to work on both IP brands like Hot Wheels, Barbie, Matchbox as well as a variety of licensed brands such as Disney Princess, Disney Cars, Toy Story, WWE, Jurassic World and many others. The role is located at Mattel's Handler Team Center at its Worldwide Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.
We are seeking a creative packaging individual who is involved in the package design process (not just production) and proficient in Artios CAD and 3‑D modeling (i.e., Solidworks). The candidate must drive the packaging process with project‑management and creative skills, and work collaboratively with internal Packaging Design Staff, Marketing, Product Design, Project Managers and our counterparts overseas.
What Your Impact Will Be As an Associate Packaging Engineer, you will design and develop innovative structural packaging solutions to support worldwide product launches through a strong knowledge of technology and materials. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to:
Create innovative structures to maintain competitive advantage.
Design 3D structures that compliment and protect complex products.
Originate a package concept for cost estimation and provide alternative packaging solutions and cost savings.
Work on multiple projects concurrently while adhering to packaging and business schedules.
Collaborate cohesively in a team environment; produce standard engineering drawings and have direct experience working with paper materials and multiple plastics.
Ideate and express ideas visually and verbally to cross‑functional teams.
Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers.
Act as a liaison and creative engineering partner with our China team.
Participate in various team/department/management meetings.
Support toy fair requirements throughout the year.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's Degree.
Experience in Packaging or Industrial Design preferred.
Highly creative individual with the ability to develop innovative package solutions.
Knowledge of package manufacturing processes and the ability to generate detailed packaging specs; capable of re‑thinking package designs with new, innovative visions.
Experience working in a team environment, under tight deadlines, building strong relationships.
Proficiency in Artios CAD and 3‑D modeling.
Competencies Required
Originate package concepts for cost estimation and offer alternative solutions and savings.
Design innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage.
Design 3D structures that complement and protect complex products.
Work on multiple projects concurrently.
Adhere to packaging/business schedules.

The annual base salary range for this position is between $67,000 and $83,000. This range is indicative of the projected hiring range, but annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
