Connectivity Engineer, AWS Data Center, Network Product Development
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
invites you to apply for the role of Connectivity Engineer within our AWS Data Center and Network Product Development organization.
Overview AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support every AWS data center and all critical equipment—servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling—to ensure our customers have continuous access to cloud innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to develop and evaluate new hardware and software solutions and create implementation plans for incorporating them into the network.
Automate test plans and develop and qualify optical modules and electrical cables.
Design and specify structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments and structured cabling systems.
Identify ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture, propose and deliver projects with significant business/customer impact.
Manage fiber/device vendors and contractors; perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems.
Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions, ensuring compliance with design and operational requirements.
Monitor network/system/link quality and build mechanisms to remediate large-scale events and improve link health.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical network components across global sites.
A Day in the Life On an everyday basis, you will bridge design, construction, and operations, ensuring that every layer of physical networking—from fiber trunks to copper patching to optical transceivers—meets high standards of performance, reliability, and scalability. You’ll influence industry practices, develop software tools with sister teams, and implement processes that deliver systemic business impact.
About the Team Within AWS Networking, the Network Product Development (NPD) organization designs hardware, builds software, and owns interconnects for routers that power the global AWS network. The fleet of routers grows by ~70% annually, requiring continuous monitoring of key business and operational metrics to minimize customer impact.
Why AWS Amazon Web Services is the world’s most comprehensive and widely adopted cloud platform. From startups to Global 500 companies, customers rely on our robust suite of services to power their businesses.

3+ years of experience with optical transceivers and IEEE standards.
Expertise in industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and other relevant structured cabling guidelines.
2+ years of experience developing test scripts for optics validation and characterization; strong skills in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, cable schedules, and documentation management.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
Master’s degree with 3+ years of industry or academic research experience; certifications such as BICSI, RCDD, etc.
