Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to support the laboratory in performing various tasks, troubleshooting, training, and recommending workflow improvements. The position requires proficiency in blood draws, specimen handling, and maintaining accurate records while ensuring compliance with health regulations. Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label, centrifuge, and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections to patients.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, and label specimens correctly.
  • Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts for accuracy.
  • Prepare and package specimens for transport, maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, and attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer phone inquiries and interpret laboratory results for callers.
Essential Skills
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different situations.
  • Experience performing 15-35 draws daily.
Work Environment The position is located in a doctor's office, with a small designated lab area shared by only two doctors. The phlebotomist will work mostly independently and is expected to stand for most of their shift. The patient demographic ranges from ages 18 to 90, focusing on adults and geriatrics. Initial training consists of a 3-day virtual session in Chesapeake, followed by additional onsite training. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Elizabeth City, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
