Job Summary
The Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) serves as the primary point of contact for patients and is responsible for performing high-quality blood specimen collection and processing for laboratory testing. This role requires excellent phlebotomy skills, strong customer service, attention to detail, and adherence to established clinical, safety, and confidentiality standards. The PSR II works independently in fast-paced environments including patient service centers, physician offices, and mobile or multi-site locations as business needs require.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture, capillary, forensic, and clinical specimen collection following established procedures
Prepare, label, and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing
Verify patient identity and demographic information; obtain patient initials/signature post-venipuncture to confirm correct tube labeling
Maintain accurate documentation and required records in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards
Create a professional, safe, and patient-focused environment that builds trust and confidence
Communicate procedures clearly to patients and address questions or concerns
Demonstrate leadership behaviors, process excellence, and commitment to confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
Perform daily duties accurately and on time under the direction of an area supervisor
Promote a positive company image to patients, clients, coworkers, and the public
Support coverage at multiple locations, including Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy sites, with minimal notice
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong phlebotomy skills (pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
High attention to detail and accuracy in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change
Sound judgment and decision-making based on established procedures
Keyboarding and data entry proficiency
Scheduling and Work Environment
Flexible availability required, including weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, overtime, and possible Saturday rotation
Travel required to support multiple locations
Training locations may vary based on trainer availability
Fast-paced Patient Service Center (PSC) environment
Federal drug screening responsibilities required
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (REQUIRED)
Medical Assistant or Paramedic training (PREFERRED)
Phlebotomy certification (PREFERRED; REQUIRED in CA, NV, and WA)
Experience Requirements
Minimum 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience (pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections required)
3 years of phlebotomy experience preferred
2 years of Patient Service Center experience preferred
Customer service experience in retail or service environments strongly preferred
