Job Title: Phlebotomist I - AikenJob Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture clearly and courteously, and demonstrating techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
- Update patient information and decontaminate work areas as needed.
- Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections clearly to patients.
- Demonstrate proper technique using straight and butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders accurately.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Work Environment
This position operates within a fast-paced environment, typically from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00/5:30 PM, with the need to close as required. The role is part of a team setting with two other phlebotomists, where the location serves around 100 patients daily. The position is initially contract-based, with the potential for permanent placement at another location. Familiarity with FMLA coverage is beneficial, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a team in a busy environment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
