Job Description: Phlebotomist II – Float

Location: Aventura, FL
Duration: 6+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with rotational Saturdays)

Position Overview

The Phlebotomist II – Float (Patient Services Representative II) serves as the front-facing representative of the organization, ensuring a professional, compassionate, and efficient experience for patients. This role is responsible for performing high quality blood collection, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment. The Float position requires flexibility, reliability, exceptional phlebotomy skills, and the ability to travel between multiple sites with minimal notice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients professionally and create an atmosphere of trust, confidence, and service excellence.
  • Collect quality blood samples from patients of all age groups (pediatric, adult, geriatric) following established protocols.
  • Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing with accuracy and compliance to procedures.
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and ensure comfort and safety throughout the collection process.
  • Verify patient demographics, initials, and obtain patient signatures post venipuncture to confirm proper labeling.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and required documentation.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational commitment and uphold a positive image with patients, clients, and colleagues.
  • Maintain a professional, safe, and clean work environment.
  • Perform duties confidently related to both forensic and clinical specimen collection.
  • Work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
  • Travel to multiple phlebotomy sites as assigned; must report on time to the designated location each day.
  • Support staffing shortages or urgent needs across sites, often with short notice.
  • Comply with all company policies, including dress code, safety guidelines, and confidentiality standards.
  • Handle multiple priorities effectively in a high-volume environment.
  • Exhibit leadership behaviors, strong customer focus, clear communication, and adaptability to change.

Job Requirements

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric draws.
  • Ability to produce error free work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, on call assignments, and overtime as needed.
  • Capable of working across multiple locations with minimal supervision.
  • Decision making ability based on established procedures and sound judgment.
  • Keyboarding/data entry experience.

Transportation Requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation —rideshare, buses, or Uber do not qualify .
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record .
  • Travel between sites is required; mileage reimbursement is provided.
  • Candidates should live within 20–25 minutes of the primary worksite to ensure consistent on-time arrival.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required .
  • Medical Assistant or Paramedic training preferred .
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (mandatory in CA, NV, WA).

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience required , including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • 2+ years experience in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience in retail or service industry preferred.

Additional Details

  • Must be available for full scheduled shifts and maintain excellent attendance; excessive tardiness or absenteeism leads to termination.
  • Training may occur at various locations depending on trainer availability.
  • Floaters must always arrive on time to whichever facility they are assigned daily.
