Job Overview The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a Medical Director for Prescribing and Pain Management Licensure matters. This executive service position reports directly to the Assistant Commissioner of Health Licensure and Regulation.
Key Responsibilities
Review all complaints filed against licensees involving the inappropriate prescribing of controlled substances, including threshold determinations on violations and advising board investigators.
Perform detailed reviews of medical charts and collaborate with the Office of General Counsel on disciplinary parameters.
Oversee initial pain clinic licensure and renewals, and assist the CSMD Committee in utilizing CSMD information to identify prescribers with inappropriate prescribing practices.
Engage with the Board of Medical Examiners, Board of Nursing, Board of Pharmacy, and other applicable boards concerning prescribing.
Collaborate with other state departments regarding the misuse of controlled substances and conduct literature reviews/research to inform policy.
Supervise the APRN prescribing consultant and the pain clinic licensure team.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed and practicing for at least 5 years as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician in Tennessee.
Experience in prescribing controlled substances. Certified Addiction Specialist or Certified Pain Management Specialist preferred.
Background Check This position requires a criminal background check. Candidates may be required to provide information about their criminal history.
